Introduction:

We’ve all heard of plastic shell frame steel tape measures (PSFTM; also known as a PTFM or a PSFMS) by now. They’re everywhere, they’re often used to measure our houses and fences, and we just know that they are awesome. Because of this, it can be easy to miss the fact that these are also available for apartments and office buildings as well.

But there is a very important difference between them. A PSFTM is made from pressure-resistant steel which has been coated in polyurethane, which makes it resistant to bending, cutting, and abrasion. This means that even if you accidentally drop your PSFM on hardwood floors — it will bounce on them without doing any damage at all. The polyurethane coating also increases the life of the product by providing more grip than regular steel tape measures (which tend to slip around in carpeting).
